92 8v GTI

Post by sneakyboy1 »

So most of you know I recently added another member to my family...no, i'm not talking about McKenzie, i'm talking bout my 92 8v GTI.
Anyways, thought i'd start a build thread on here although it's really not much of a build at this point.
Plans for right now are to get her rolling OG with the original 8v.
Right now she's got a blown headgasket. Also needs a new front bumper skin. It has some body damage to the passenger side fender, door as well as the hood. The car came with replacements for those however. They are white in color though so a paintjob will be in the making here at some point.
Plans right now are to fix the head gasket(hopefully that's it) and get her running stock. Got some wheels coming from Jurgen that i'll end up running on her but need to get adapters first. Will also be aquiring new tail lights for her from Jurgen! Thanks man!
I am sure i'll be lowering her shortly soon too as I don't like anything stock height. Either gotta be lifted or lowered.
The interior was horribly dirty but after i've started cleaning it up it's in immaculate condition with the exception of 2 cracks in the dash and the speaker grills broken in the doors. Driver seat has a small cig burn in it but other than that the seats are in incredible shape period! They were not the Recaros that the guy who sold it to me though they were but I am not complaining one single bit at these!
I picked up(stole) this beauty for for the amount of change I probably have in my couch at home.
Only $300  :unibrow:   I told the guy i'd buy it before I even saw it because I knew what she was worth.
At first I was thinking of fixing her up and selling but I have since decided she's a keeper. I've always loved MKII's and this one is in such great shape with little to do that i'm just going to fix her up OG right now and drive her as a daily for now. I've been looking to sell the MKIV Golf to fund an Audi purchase here in the hopefully near future so this will make a great daily until then.
Anyways, enough with the small talk and on with the current pictures.

Here she is when I first brought her home. Thanks for the help Jarred(S406)

Here's how the interior looked when I got her. Horribly dirty!!!

Alright, time to pull a head to change a gasket. Pretty friggin dirty!
Image

Holy shit, it cleaned up soo nice!!! The underside of that hood looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor in 1991!!!

Pulled the front grill n lights
Image

Front bumper off. It is trashed pretty bad so just going to replace it!
Image

Image

Engine bay cleaned up pretty nicely too!
Image

All 4 cylinders were reading 120-122 so hoping a head gasket should get her running good again!
Image

Got alot of the crap out of the way so I can pull the head. Still gotta do the nasty and get behind the head to unbolt the intake/exhaust manis.
Image

So that's as far as I got last night(engine bay anyways. Interior cleaning been doing the last few days)

I'll keep adding as i'm going.

p.s. For those of you(Brandon Kompressorgolf) who are wondering about the MKI GTI, it's simply on hold right now. After the baby, too many financial obligations to fund it at the moment but it will be getting worked on along the way too, just not as quickly as I had previously hoped.
