My mom has a 99 beetle, and she loves it. I think it has had the "normal" problems, nothing major. just normal maintanence stuff.

I must say that my 1.8T beetle is a nice little rig.. so far the only real issue since i have had it (1.5years) is a minor vacuum leak that i havent fixed. Other than that, i am a happy VW owner!

we have had 2 water pump replacements and timing belt replacements on two 2.0s in the last 2 days and one keeps setting radiator fan codes. it seems to be hit or miss with the 2.0s some we get have a gagillion miles and run great! and some are junk lol.

Well there will be no road trip to Butte this coming Monday. She found a 2001 Bug in Billings. Thanks for all your comments everyone. I just hope that I am not spending a ton of time under the hood. ;)

Well my sister ended up getting a 2001 Beetle with the 2.0l. She got it for a descent price. It did however have a bad water pump. Well last week I ordered a new pump and while I was waiting for the pump the cam sensor went out. Today I put the new pump, timing belt, tension pulley, and cam sensor in. I got it all out back together and wouldn't you know it. It didn't start. So I checked the code and it shows up a bad cam sensor. CRAP. :banghead: The cam sensor that I got from NAPA was bunk. They are going to swap it out but they had to order the stupid thing from Denver. Not to mention the time it's going to take to take the crap one out and put the new one in. AGAIN! What can I say but at the least I will have a ton of experience on the front end of the 2.0l . :crybaby: Let me know if there could be something I am overlooking. Thanks Yall
