is with great resistance that I am selling my beloved Golf TDI. This beauty has been with me for many miles. I have spent the last year and a half trying to get it to run normally, but alas, I am giving up. This vehicle has a storied history, I will not hide anything...Before I list the thousands of dollars in new parts and repairs, I'll explain what happened. In March of 2007, I blew the timing belt and fried all of the valves. This got repaired and she was running as good as new. Then, in June of 2009, I did major lower engine damage after an unknown crack in my oil pan caused a serious leak. Since then, here is what I have replaced, the cost of the part, and the mileage since:
full rebuild (new rings, boring, seals, etc.) $: Too much to admit. this was 7k ago (I question the quality of the rebuild, but have no way of knowing).
new intercooler: $150 6k
new egr cooler: $150 6k
new MAF sensor: $150 5k
new fuel injection pump (Bosch oem, not a rebuild): $1500 2k
new Garret VNT turbo: $900 1k
new wastegate actuator: $150 new
new vacuum hose: na
new glow plugs, relay, and wiring harness: $150 brand new
new cat converter: 7k
new oem clutch: $400, 4k
new oil pan (obviously)
new headlamp covers
new tires (Michelins) 6k
What else...I replaced the rear axel bushings about 15k ago. new control arm bushings 15k ago. Bilstein shocks have 40k. 100k timing belt at 110k. I've got some Nokian Hakkapelitas with a lot of tread. It's got a towing hitch. Sony cd/mp3 player. Here is what else is wrong with it...lock mechanism doesn't work, it stinks (the exhaust), the driver's seat won't lock into place, it has some dents from the hail storm, one wheel is different (had 4 Audi wheels-one cracked and I couldn't find a replacement), otherwise...I love driving this car. I have got up to 65 mpg! Just before I stopped driving it September, I got 48 mpg on a trip to Wyoming (I was going 85 the whole way). I don't want to sell this baby, but...I can't fix it, and the mechanic who I've been taking it to does not understand the modern diesel car. I won't mention him here, but will tell you upon request. SOMEONE CAN AND SHOULD FIX THIS THING AND DRIVE IT LIKE CRAZY!
Price is non-negotiable. I've got way too much in parts. At $3300, you are getting a brand new turbo, fuel injector pump, tires, and a rebuilt engine-worth it for these parts alone!
I just tried to start it after 3 months-it turned over fine, then stalled. I didn't want to crank on it. If you are interested, I will plug it in and get it warm before I try again. Just before I stopped driving it, I had come back from a long road trip. It was smokey and stinky when warming up, but cruised after reaching temp.
The interior is decent; not immaculate but I have kept it up. I have two headrests for the back. It has some cool aftermarket accents, too. It is a unique looking ride. I only have one key. Oh, the rear wiper arm just broke off from snow. And the rear defoger doesn't work.
WILL TRADE FOR A HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN!
