Got the tranny apart. I spent two weeks doing research on weather or not to do this myself. As long as I don't touch the gear assembly(comes out in one piece) or the diff, I just have to throw new seals in and put it back together. After spending 45 minutes trying to get the gear carrier out, I remembered that every Scirocco came with the special tool to separate the carrier from the case on a Type 1 transaxle.

Ya.....,I was pissed off at work and not paying enough attention. I put the 8 dowel jig on upside down and my offset pin is offset in the wrong direction. I'm planning a trip to Brax on friday to see what they have going on there(and to pick up other stuff I need).

So rotating assembly machining was going to run me $300. I went to Brax and got a counterweight crank and matching lightened flywheel for $270, all balanced ad ready to go. I also picked up a couple of other things.
