1964 Split window bus build.

Post by kompressorgolf »

For those who didnt get a "look at what we finally found text", we acquired a split bus this weekend after
more than five years on the hunt. We followed countless leads to bay windows, and splits that seemed unatainable. Finally a gentleman walks into the dealer on saturday and get to talkin with him, come to find he had one, he thought he had two, but one was a bay. Drove out and secured the deal.

The project:
The plan is to do full modern suspension front and back, with reliable VR6 power out back. nice clean custom interior.

For the purists: this thing was meant to be a storage facility from 1974- the end of the world. he cut out everything, the whole underside is rusted with erratic plasma cuts and torch-outs everywhere. the front bulk head behind the seat was removed for more storage. however, the outside, all glass doors are all there and in remarkable shape, we got our work "cut out" on this one man! will post pics up on saturday, the transformation has already began, with the removal of an estimated 40-50 black widows, and stinky wood paneling. windows are out and doors off, will go to sand-blasting soon.

That is very cool.
So, edumcate me. Split window is obviously a two piece windshield? And it has the "hawk nose"? A bay window is later, with one curved window, but still hawk nose? Does it have barn doors on the side, or a sliding door?

When I first read VR6, I have to admit I cringed a little, but what you say about the floor pan makes sense. Of course, being a little biased, I would love to see an air-cooled flat six back there, but a VR is in the family, and will be cool for sure.

Can't wait to see it come together.

This sounds awesome guys, can't wait to see your work. Mind posting some pictures of it?

I would like to see Cory and Tony build an upright motor for this, but I think a VR would be really cool under the hatch. BTW, I have a VR6 block and 12v head in my garage that I would let go for cheap or trade. It needs a bottom end rebuild and a little work, but it's here if you need something.
