Interesting topic for a build thread

So for those of you who aren't friends with me on Facebook, I figured I'd let you all in on what's happening with my car. After moving back to Sheridan, the car became a hit and run magnet. First incident was the one that caused this :

No big deal, I can handle some body damage. As long as it still drives, I can live with it. But just a few weeks later, I get hit in the parking lot where I work which becomes the reason why I have this picture :

Again, nothing I can't handle. So axle gets replaced, drives all sorts of lovely and doing just fine. Climb the on ramp to go to the far side of town and what happens? RPM's climb, speed doesn't. *#$!ing clutch. So she gets parked and sits for a 7-8 months. Until I finally get in a position where I can do what needs to be done. That's right, build the damn thing!

And this is how it sits at the moment. It's getting thrown on a trailer and moved to a friend's shop so I can pull the motor and install the clutch, re-do the exhaust, and finish with all the other maintenance things.

List of parts being installed at the moment :
APR Snub Mount
APR Turbo Inlet Pipe
Test Pipe
Timing belt kit
Valeo Clutch with Single Mass Flywheel (rated to 275lb-ft of tq)
Boost gauge
K03s Turbo (brand new)

Round two will include :
Integrated Engineering rods
JE Pistons (82mm)
Full tear down of motor and replacing all bearings, seals, gaskets
Stronger clutch (still undecided, as I haven't decided what turbo I'm going with)

Got the clutch swapped out, changed all the gaskets up top save for the head gasket, installed the new turbo and inlet pipe. Took about 12 hours of actual labor, since I'm boss like that lol.

Look how clean it is!

I've also managed to pick up a completely rebuilt cylinder head (resurfaced, valve seats/retainers/springs replaced) with new cams for dirt cheap, so that will be going in soon as well. I still have to hook up the boost gauge and install the test pipe. I drove the car home from my Aunt's garage where I did the work, and man did I loooooove that 5 mile journey lol.

New head that's on the way :

And now I'm hunting for a front mount intercooler to replace the puny stock unit.

looks good! question...why did you go with the ko3s and not the ko4?

Buddy here in town had the k03s just laying around and let me have it for $50 since his B5 now runs a GT3076. I am just running that to get the car mobile and later down the road I'm gonna get a decent sized turbo (bigger than K04).

nice, if your looking at keeping the low end but with nice top end go with a gt28(60,71) something like that. itll give you around 400 or maybe more depending on supporting mods. what RPM does his hit full boost?

If your going with that much power you would be wise build the bottom end.

I haven't the slightest idea, to be honest. I haven't given his car a whole lot of attention lol.

There's a few parts to this build : the first being all the stuff to keep the motor fresh and running well, the second being to make the car able to handle whatever power I throw at it (rods, pistons, etc) and the final step being turbo.

I'm not a big fan of doing more work than I need to, so making sure the motor is strong before I ever increase the power level is priority. I don't wanna trash a block because of impatience. lol

well played sir....on that thought...i know that most audi motors really only require stronger rods to handle power over 500hp. all together they made their motors pretty damn strong right from the factory.
