Bummer.

I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but you're taking great care of your Passat. The reason why you are doing so much work is because the PO left a lot unnoticed and not maintained, and now it's catch up time.

It's still great to drive, right? And wait until winter hits...you are gonna love the 4mo in the snow.

I bought this one because it seemed maintained very well, every record since the purchase. All required maintenance done at or before service interval. I think the Texas heat has destroyed/deteriorated all the rubber on the car to the point where it is failing. Now I'm stuck with it. I'm sure once I rebuild the car it will be great. By that point I should of just bought a new car. It is still a good driving car. No 4mo on this one though.

My mistake, I thought I spied a driveshaft in one of the pics.

Heat is the enemy of all the plastic crap VAG puts in the engine bay :banghead: Texas is balls hot, no wonder the check valves are crispy.

Ditto on Josh, it's worth sticking with it. I just replaced alot on my Audi plus did a 5 speed swap. Holy shit I'm glad that's done. After and alignment and tires tomorrow it will be like a new car.

The plot thickens. There has been a lot of movement in the shifter as of recent during acceleration. The tranny mounts started to tear around the center. So I decided to replace them. Popped the hood open, smelled coolant, and noticed the coolant level was low. Went to jack the car up and noticed a deep scratch on passenger side door that goes to the metal(no clue when this happened, probably just a kind respectful parking lot goer). Got the car up in the air and saw coolant on the tranny. From what I can see it looks like it is leaking from the rear coolant flange. While i was down there also noticed that the shifter bushings are soft like a sponge(probably explains some of the difficulty getting it into gear at times). One of the shifter rods can rotate 3/16" before moving the selector rod in the tranny. I probably wont due suspension stuff until it starts really affecting the handling. It dawned on me, that if I were to get ten gallons of gasoline and burn the car to the ground it would fix all that is wrong or going to go wrong with this car. On the plus side it is a good driving car, the power it had and plus some(thank you TT DP and manifold porting) came back after the ignition coils were replaced.

Bummer man, sometimes these projects seem never ending. If it makes you feel better I think my golf needs new rear wheel bearings and probably all the drum brakes stuff in the rear.

Haza Haza. Now there is an issue with the Homelink thingy. Got home and it did nothing, the little red light didnt flash or anything. The vanity mirror light was not working either. the fuse was ok. Changed the fuse anyway, the light started to work but no homelink. moved the visor a bunch of times up and down and it started working. i guess this is a common problem with them and a pain in the ass to fix.
