Thanks Brandon. I have the fender and bumper. I pulled them to get some misc. things squared away. It still needs a bunch of tlc. I also got a couple of bolts left and the tranny will be out for new seals and VR flywheel and clutch. Thanks to Mike for hooking me up with the VR flywheel.

So the tranny is out of the car. Well lets just say that it's not just a bad seal. ImageImage
Not sure what went wrong inside but I drove it home doing 75mph with no issues and it shifted fine.

It's not how fast you go. It's how well you go fast.

I would but I'm guessing something let loose inside. Who knows how long it would last.

I may just go with my other 02j and then take the broken one in for welding. My only concern with that is they both have different shift linkages. But I may be able to swap them out. I have never welded aluminum before so I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself.

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. I picked up a 99 gls vr6 same color for 200 this summer! Just about to finish up timing chains and misc. vr cooling leaks. Good luck, lets have a cheap jetta contest!

This is definitely going to be extreme low budget build.
