Did some work on my 8v the timing belt, drive belts, found and replace a wasted trans mount, found a bunch of old vacuum lines with splits and replaced them.
While I was in there I found a brown wire that is missing the connecter just to the right of the valve cover and was hoping maybe you guys know where it goes. I was thinking it was a ground but when I ground it the rad fan comes on. As far as I know the fan works fine so this confused me

Looks like coolant temp/fan wire to me, and it looks like your flange has a plug instead of a temp sender. However, it's usually a 2 wire sender...so where's the other wire? Or, you have no gauge, and it's for the coolant dummy light/fan, therefore the single wire.

The other sender screwed in the head is an oil pressure sender. There should be another sender in the oil filter housing.

I was thinking it was some kind of coolant temp/fan switch because when I ground it to the head the fan comes on. And the plug in the flange made me wonder if a PO had messed with this and removed/ rerouted the wires or if that's how it came? I couldn't remember on these.
I pretty much only take this car on short drives around town so I'm not positive if the gauge is functioning properly. I will be sure to check it tomorrow.

That's the Wire for the ambient temp fan or after run switch usually off the back of the valve cover.

Vr update. Got all may parts cleaned, painted and ready to be installed on the engine. I then dropped and broke the drive belt tensioner pulley. So I have a new one of those coming along with all new oil + coolant sensors, a billet dip stick, more tape to finish wrapping my harness. I think I have everything removed from that I want.
I need to pick up a flare tool to redo my brake line. I think it's a metric bubble flare but I can never keep straight what flare is what. Can anyone confirm this?

Question. I have been installing my wiring harness and have a few plugs without homes. all single wire. Green plug has a black red wire.
Blue plug has a red wire.
Yellow has a red black wire.
I want to believe that they are wires for options that my car doesn't have. Wanted to check with you guys to see what you thought

Od2 VR6 97 gti. They are close to the back of the fuse box
