Tropic Orange GTI

Post by lunari »

I just picked up a 2000 GTI GLX, I'm loving it so far. I found it for sale on Craigslist in Colorado Springs it was advertised as clean although I wouldn't quite call it that but it's not bad. Big step up from the MK3 Jetta that I had been driving. It's not perfect of course but it doesn't seem to need much mechanically speaking. I bought it off of Craigslist and flew to Denver to pick it up, spent an evening enjoying Denver then drove back to Glendive the next morning. It originally came with leather but the PO swapped out the beat up leather for some cloth seats. After the drive back to MT I could have just kept going, this thing drives great on the highway. It has a GLI suspension swapped on, I heard on vortex it gives you about a 1" drop? Seems to handle alright and the Arietta wheels are curbed on one of them so I might plastidip them gunmetal to hide it a bit until I can get another wheel.

Also, the rear bumper needs some paint and the driver side rear wheel arch is scrunched a bit, it isn't bad and doesn't stick out much I didn't notice it until I was in Gillette on the way home leaving Arbys. There are a few small dings but a friend of mine has one of those suction cup dent pullers we might try on it. New rear hatch struts are required I'm already tired of being hit in the head with that thing. Tint could use a redo, and it has the ever common broken armrest lol. Auto dimming mirror is stuck on night mode and the power mirror switch is broken. As for mechanically is not bad. Lower radiator hose is leaking and the clutch just started to slip slightly day before yesterday although a friend of mine thinks it might be the cold?

All in all not bad... What am I saying, I love it! First thing will be the clutch and radiator hose and then on to the little things. Engine runs great, it's my first VR6 and who knows it might be a VRT one day. I'll get some more pics tomorrow need to give it a good vacuuming and it had a wash today lol.

Yeah thats for sure. It could have been a lot worse and I'm happy with it :)

Edit: I heard only about 300 or so were made in Tropic Orange, anyone have an exact number?

Wow really clean looking MK4 from here. I think I have seen maybe 5 or 6 tropic orange since they were new. Great looking color in person.
Unaffiliated.

Yeah I hear it's a rare color, it does look nice in person. I like how it shifts from orange to an reddish orange depending on the light. Sorry for the wait on more pics been pretty busy lately, I'll try to get some shortly!

Edit: My clutch is no long slipping now that it has warmed up a bit here in Glendive, it must have been the cold after all.
