O1E discuss

Post by Leifro »

Let's gets some information sped around while we all still have the brain cells on this kinda stuff.
Recently learned: an O1E 5 speed can have a 6th gear added into the case with just the simple acquiring of the gear itself.
All O1E ' s reverse is in the same spot as most mk1 - mk3 vws as a dead give away.
All 2000 and newer 6 speeds are 01E, also euro spec
Anyone out there with euro gear info weight in.

The early O1E's in the UR cars had problems with first gear making noise and sometimes going out. I believe mid '93 they fixed this issue. I had no idea you could add a sixth gear to these!!

Isn't the 01E a Passat transmission? I don't think they put it in mk1-3 cars

No Wes they didn't put one in a mk1- mk3 car. The O1E ' s reverse is in the same sspot though as a 020. Down left then forward. I know the newer passats run a trans similar to an O1E, 01X may be the code. The casings for all 01E ' s also are the same with some even have a oil cooler
