I know nothing about car audio stuff...

Post by ValveFloat »

So I want to connect my Palm to my factory head unit, so I can listen to MP3s.
I don't want to change the head unit, I am perfectly happy with it, and not willing to cut into my suspension/tire budget. :)

So will this thing work? http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/ ... =121&avf=N

And how do I pull the stereo out of the dash to hook it up?

Yes, and no.

Yes it will work, but no, FM mods can sound like crap, and you don't seem like that kinda guy, Joe. What outputs does your palm have on it? Are we just talking 3.5mm headphone jack? Let me see what I can come up with, I may have an aux input converter for your car. 04 R32, right? Which stereo does it have in it? Monsoon? Do you have a factory changer, or sat radio?

Don't get me wrong, FM mods will work, but I like to use them as the last resort, or if nothing else will work.

Ditto. Find an Aux input adapter like he was sayin' You'll be happier. IIRC, you can find them for the Monsoon system as adapters that plug into your stock changer plug.

Enfig makes an adapter that plugs into your CD changer spot. You would have to run some wire back up to the HU but that's no big deal. I have kinda the same thing running, but aftermarket, and I can (and do) use my mp3 player all the time with it.

I'll see if I can find more info for you.

Oh and I agree - FM mods suck major. Even the self powered don't work very well - spend the $40 on something hard wired.

edit: Ok http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/s ... W_AUX.html

There are few things on this page that would work depending on your setup. Do you have a Cd changer? If so do you want to keep it? What factory HU model do you have? Do you have the tools to pull it? And finally do you want to install the setup yourself?

Thanks guys.

Palm audio out is a headphone jack.

Stereo is Monsoon with an amp and a connector in the back for a changer, which I am not using.

So would this be the thing?

I don't have removal keys. Sounds like I pull the head unit out, disconnect the changer cable and plug that thing in, then connect a cable like this to it?

That sounds like its within my abilities.

Yep, that should do it, but you will also need this.

I would also order the Metra keys. I have those and they work great.
