Yup, there's a notch on MKIV and MKV hoods for the badge. There are a ton of notch kits that have to be attached, filled, sanded, painted to the hood, but it's a lot of work for a small notch. There are some aftermarket grills that have top lip that fills the notch void. VW sells a 4 oz rattle can of matched paint that comes with 4 oz of clearcoat for less than $20 at the dealership. It's the route I'm going on my rear badges since they are adjacent to body paint and not flat black plastic like the front grill.Ramrod wrote:Plasti dipping the stock grill might be a cheap alternative to get the all blackness. It's cool stuff and looks pretty factory. If it doesn't work, you can always buy the badeless grill anyway. Don't MkIV's have the little indent where the badge meets the hood? I'd rather black out an emblem on those cars than deal with getting a new hood, or modifying it so it's flat. It just looks odd to have the little cutout and nothing there.
Plastidipping sounds interesting though. Wonder how durable that would be compared to powdercoating my wheels or anything else....
