Re: German AWD
So I started reassembling my seat then noticed that one side pivot for the back rest was loose while the other side felt tight.
So investigate and found that the pivot is completely broken. I don't know how many times you've got to plop your bum down to break this, it's not thin.

Take a break and have an epic peanut butter, multigrain cheerio & craisin burrito.

Okay, rev'd up again, sand the joint to prepare for welding. I used my dremel because of all the curves and such

Weld it up, now I'm ready for assembly again

Re: German AWD
That peanut butter, multigrain cheerio & craisin burrito needs it's own build thread.
Nice job.

Thank you!kevin286 wrote:This stuff takes time. Props to those who do this for a living.
And your amp will be either internal or external switching on the 5th channel. If you have a 3/4/5 switch on the amp somewhere(but I assume you don't as you seem pretty intelligent, and probably looked already) Some amps are automatic and put out channel 5 all the time by summing the inputs and knocking off the high freqs. Some amps have a little tiny switch on the channel 5 RCA input, so that it can tell if there is actually something hooked up there, and then it turns on the channel 5 output. That being said, if it has the tiny micro switch, it will still probably sum the other channels, and still output channel 5, if there is no RCA connected to it. Ideally you want to use a dedicated channel 5 input off your deck, so that you have more flexibility on your sub channel(gain, x-overs, etc), but if you are only using channels 1-4, you should still be good.
Make sense?
also, did you do a push/pull with your fans? you don't have to, but in some cases it works better.

Re: German AWD
@Rennwagen1
Looks like you're totally right. I read the manual, gasp from the crowd.
So I've been digging more into the 4 or 5 channel thing to make sure I've got all the inputs and outputs wired on the amp right.
Looks like I don't need to do anything.
With 4 channels of input and 4 channels + 1 channel for subwoofer on the output, I just flip the switch to 4CH mode and bob's your uncle, it will sum the 4 input channels and use that for the 5th (sub) output.
There was suggestion from another forum, thinking I should use Y splitter from the RR and RL channels at the headunit and run those as RCA inputs for the sub, but really after reading, I don't think that's needed.
Am I crazy? here's the excerpt from the manual.

MODE
The Power 5500 comes equipped with a 4CH/5CH MODE switch and can be
configured for two different input modes: 4 channel or 5 channel. In 5 channel
mode, the subwoofer channel is a sum of the RCA inputs 5CH/1 and 5CH/2.
For head units with a mono SUBWOOFER output, you should select 5 channel
mode and use either the 5CH/1 or 5CH/2 as the input. In 4 channel mode the
subwoofer channel is a sum of CH1, CH2, CH3 and CH4. This mode should be
used for head units without a separate SUBWOOFER output.

Re: German AWD
Ok, do you have a dedicated sub out on your HU? If so, I would run another set of RCAs to the input for the 5th channel. If you don't have one, let the amp do he work and sum from channels 1-4. Don't use a Y connector.

Re: German AWD
Okay, back to it a little bit tonight.
With the on again off again nice/not nice weather I spent time on another project

but this isn't about shed building, this is about raw, angry german powwa
I started putting the dash together and put in the HU.

Put it in the dash, fits good

Meh, small update. Trying to get it together enough for the cars and coffee sunday. Anyone know if you have to have hood on to be legal?

Re: German AWD
Oh yeah, almost forgot. I worked on my skirt as well.
It was cracked all the way through and not looking so good so first I tried plastic welding it, but that didn't work, something about the plastic more burnt than melted.
So I bent some aluminum, counter sunk drilled the plastic and riveted it back in place. Then some body filler and sanding.
