German AWD

Post by kevin286 »

Hi, I've been a lurker :ninja: here for a couple of years; long enough to have been to a few g2gs when those happened  I started out with just a type 1 (second owner ftw) and am now currently working on a 81 Starlet and an 88 325IX.
This is about the ix.

Picked it up off craigslist, not running but (should run). :\
dents here an there, not ran for 3+ years, broken rear spring, didn't shift (with linkage it should work).
Trailer'd it to a friends shop.

fixed the broken rear spring by doing Ground Control coilover kit 600lb/550lb r/f IIRC, camber plates and top adjust Koni's
front

Fixed the shifting with new bushings (linkage type shifter) and went ahead and did a Z3 short throw while I was there. Can't find the pictures... looks like a shifter

Sitting for 3 years ran like poo and pump whined :banghead: so dropped the gas tank and cleaned the inside with pea gravel, cleaned the pump sock and new fuel filter. Whine fixed.

Drove it home at this point and put it on jack stands in the garage and proceeded with the rest of the fuel sys.
intake cleaned (i know, that's air, but it was in the way of fuel so..)
Image
valve cover touched up with some wrinkle paint (same thing... i was there, also did vc gasket)
Image
Acquired some 17lb type 3? injectors (4 pintle vs single) from an M50 and cleaned those
Image
installed (this setup positions me well for chipping later)
Image
Since I had the intake mani off I could see that the ports didn't line up so...
gasket matched
Image

Now I was mostly done with fuel sys and started in on air since i was there.
tb stripped
Image
cleaned (i made a baking soda blaster. Note. this makes a huge mess in the garage :p )
Image
What the heck, got some ss allen head and did some hella flush tb plate screws
Image

Also cleaned the ICV (idle control valve) and AFM and made sure they were in spec
Image
Image
New air filter of course :screwy:

I think that takes me to final drive.
Changed out all fluids for redline :unibrow:
Rebuilt the front CVs. Still tight so just boots and grease
Image
Image
Rebuilt the rear CVs. same thing (nice that the inner and outer boots are same)
Image
Image

Along in here I didn't like the yucky exhaust side of the motor so put on new exhaust mani gaskets and painted the manifolds with ceramic paint (baked in my oven. Batchler pad  )
Image

Stripped, cleaned, painted & rebuilt brake calipers

This is where I'm at now. I should be baking the rear calipers tonight and installing SS lines.

Hey! Can you elaborate on the contraption for the injectors?
