#hoods - I read through Montana code annotated and couldn't find anything requiring them.

Hooked up the amp.
Found these terminals at home depot. They're not uber cool audio deals, but those uber cool audio terminals would mean I have to cut my primary wire which I'm not keen on. Anyways, these were cheap.

I did have to enlarge the hole just a scoche.

Put some heat shrink on it just cause

Hooked er up

Also got the skirt primed and sanded smooth

Worked on the bumper tuck. This is a common modification for those who don't have plastic bumpers. Basically you modify the bumper shocks to tuck the bumper more in resulting in less of a diving board look.
Before

Drilled a small hole to release pressure. There's various reports of internal stuff. I lucked out and got the non-biohazard melt your skin off stuff.
Image
Once the pressure was off, I put a slot in the end of the threaded shaft and turned it out of the housing.
Image
This allows the shock part to be removed from the housing
Image
There's a retaining nut, typical shock type deal here
Image
Removed it

With that off I could pull the piston out

Cleaned the piston and scraped out the stuff (seems like dry silicon)

Reassembled and ready for install

And the difference in extension

So tiny update.
I got the time to spray the skirt.
After the spray I wet sanded with 1000. It's not perfect, the paint doesn't match but it's close enough. (at this point I already know the whole car needs a repaint)
Image
And a random shot at lowes (yes it goes voom now)
Image
And in case you're not making it to these, a shot of Cars and Coffee Bozeman yesterday. Great turnout even with the junky weather. Had lots of cool cars to look at.

Small update tonight.
When I first connected the radio a couple weeks ago, I noticed that the radio would not power up unless I turned on my headlights and then it wouldn't remember it's memory. Also I had over an amp quiescent current draw. Soo.. I figured I'd first do the whole check for corrosion thing, so I cleaned all my taillight bulb sockets and the rotating plug thing with electrical contact cleaner and also my diode pack plugs and the 3rd brake light connections.
Still had too much draw so a buddy helped me monitor a meter while I pulled fuses. 21 was the ticket.
I pulled the radio and inspected the wires to make sure I'd wired it correctly. While I did, I remember reading one guy say his OE wires were not to spec with the ETM. Checked mine and sure enough, gray/red was NOT illumination, it was ignition hot and red/green was illumination (on when headlights) No idea why, but hey, I'm the retard who didn't check this when I was hooking it up in the first place.
I corrected this and it took care of my quiescent draw issue so now I'm mostly happy. I have no idea about tuning, so I think I'll take advantage of my phone call to Luke that comes with purchase of Lukebox and give him a buzz.
It does sound pretty good, but it seems to me I need to adjust the LPF ( so I get rid of some of the drone? and get it just to punch in for the beat portion of the music )

So, I worked up a little wire diagram of how I've hooked everything up. (Clicky it gets bigger)

Mm tonight, I put the side skirt back on.
I didn't get much done honestly. What with the autoX and the car show @ Dark Horse and all
Image

Since I had to pull the fender out to get the skirt back on, I sprayed the lower half of the inside with this goop.
As Murphy would have it, after that I dropped everything I touched into that goo.

It's on, no pic, got dark, phone flash != very long range.
Also waxed it, and started treating the rubber trim parts with 303. That stuffs pretty dang awesome. It really takes the light gray color plastic and vinyl and turns it black again, without becoming all slimy.

Which one?

The Audis are running good now, aside from vibration in the allroad over 70, suspect it is a front wheel bearing, just put two new axles in and still persists. Supra is still in 10000 pieces though.

So you have a Beetle, and the Starlet, and the IX? Still got the truck?

You need to add a big spoiler to truly test the aerospace protectant. Preferrably one of those big aluminum ones. Plus, the chicks dig it, and it gives people a place to sit while they wait for the bus. If you can't find one for purchase, try checking 2001.
