Those things are so cool. i'd love a squareback or a fast back. I love Aircooled VWs just as much as watercooled but in a different way. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Nope Rusty! But it should soon enough haha. It was too rainy today to start cleaning it up but sometime this week I expect it to be running! Then it's going to get buffed out and some new goodies. Mainly a tune up and Dellortos.

Something more exciting down the road as well I'm sure.

Thanks for the props!

Haha. How's it spelled man?

Good/bad news from today!

After replacing fuel lines and throwing gas in the tank today I jumped the car and it started right up and ran rough for a few seconds then smoothed out! Exciting for sure.
Then it back fired and I looked in the rear view mirror and saw the neighbor guy hit his brakes and look at the back of the car funny. I turned around and saw fire dumping out from around the trunk.
I instinctively shut the car off and ran back and looked. It was bad so I ran to get a bucket of water and the neighbor guy ran to get one too.
As I was getting back with mine he threw his on and his eyes got huge as he threw it on.

Some douche bag drained his oil into an empty bucket and set it next to the guys apartment complex so it filled up the rest of the way with water.
Thus the guy assumed it was filled with water lol.

Yep, the compartment is covered in about 6 quarts of oil and water haha.

On the bright side the engine seemed to run great and now that everything is well lubricated I'm sure it'll run even better haha.

Cause:
Upon further investigation one of the main fuel supply lines to the PS carb blew off and must have been ignited by the backfire considering I had the air cleaner off.

Casualties:
6 inches of 1/4" fuel line was burnt through and one spark plug wire!
There's some soot on the inside of the compartment and it melted the trunk/license plate wires a bit.

All in all I just need some help from someone tomorrow at lunch time or in the evening to help me tow it to a car wash so I can blow it all off.

So great, my first air cooled fire today!

Been there, done that. It can be a bitch to clean up and fix.

Air cooled fuel lines have to be inspected frequently. Especially if it has sat for a while.
