ESP having issues...

Post by Dubber »

So oddly - when I go around a corner quickly that bends to the right - the esp goes crazy and starts braking even though I am no where near slipping.
I do the same corner yet coming the other direction - there is no problem...
Any ideas whats causing the ESP to freak out?
I haven't changed anything on the car in a while so thats all the same...

I would say that spence headed in the right direction, but I would say that it is the the wiring to the sensor itself. I think it may have been rubbed raw at one point and may be grounding out on something when you make a turn. you are probably not getting a CEL because it is intermittent, and it is "workinig like it should" but not really. That is what I think, I may be right, and I may be wrong.

I agree, you may be wrong. ;)

Dubber, do you have access to a VAG-COM? Thing to do would be look at all four wheel speed sensors while doing the maneuver you described, looking for one to go out of whack.
Unfortunately ESP uses a number of sensors, some of which are pretty expensive I would assume. Somewhere in the car are longitudinal and lateral, and I believe yaw sensors. It also looks at a steering angle sensor, and throttle position.

Just had a thought, the brake light switch? Did you get yours replaced yet?

I agree with all replies  . I lean towards joes more though. I had my traction light and abs go on at the same time and it ended up being the cable that went to the right wheel had been worn through. Pop off your tires or get it in the air and check those out first. Then definitely hit the VAGCOM if you don't see anything out of place.
