What glow plugs do you use?

Alright, we need to get some more participation going on in the TDI Section! I know there are some other TDI owners on here!

It seems like I have been going through glow plugs more often than I would like. Every time one of my plugs go out I get a check engine light. I can honestly say my CEL has been on for more of the life of my car then it hasn't. Granted, I have been buying the cheaper Autolite plugs, so that might be the biggest reason.

Anyone have any luck with other glow plugs out there? Let me know what you run, and what kind of luck you've had with them!

Glow plugs - not spark plugs. Diesels don't have spark plugs.

Josh, I think you are the only TDI owner on here, although I know there are a couple of other diesel owners? I don't think they are very active on the forums right now.

Oh snap! Is it going to be a VW nerd fight? You know when we fight, we all loose.

Back OT!

you need to run oe glow plugs and if they are failing that soon you should have the control modual checked out if it is malfuction then the plugs stay on longer than what is needed for starting.
glow plugs are only supose to run during start up cause of the high compresion with really no ignition system.
compretion, heat, fuel, all that is needed to run a desiel trust me i no it is what i do for a living is work on desiel engins

I know this an older post but thought I would give my .02. When I first bought my TDI 2 years ago 2 glow plugs went bad right away as well as the harness. I bought a box of NKG plugs at napa on sale, replaced them all and haven't had to replace any since, also I replaced the wire harness as well (not as hard as thought it was going to be).

Does having a tdi in a garage make a difference in glow plug life? I would think starting in below freezing temps would be harder on them than in a nice 50 degree garage.

yes cause they do not have to stay on as long to start
