WTB: 1972-1979 VW Bus for Projekt Uber Geizig!

I am wanting to launch into the air cooled world and am looking for a super-cheap, ultra-low budget, 1972-1979 bay window bus for this summer's project.

Challenge: $500 or less...it is Projekt Uber Geizig! Total budget planned to be less than $1000 for a running bus All work to be done by myself and anyone who is willing to help teach and learn with me, in my home garage in Laurel. Plan is to document the build steps and progress to post here on BSE.

Even more of a challenge...I am looking for a bus with a straight body, good title, motor running hopefully or something I can rebuild. Don't care if it's a bus or camper but I would prefer a Westfalia w/ camping accessories (cabinets, sink, fridge) - it would be cool to have a Westy.

Anyway, whatever you guys find, please let me know. Pics are a huge plus.

FTR, I found one in Helena on CL: http://montana.craigslist.org/bar/1647236706.html BUT no reply. Anyone up there know who this is? It would be a perfect project.

too bad you couldn't of been looking to do this last summer i had a 73 bay for sale with a strong running 1.7ltr in it just had no interior except front seats

For sure! CL is almost a daily thing for me in all kinds of categories. I found that one in Helena, but no reply. Other than that one, I don't see anything statewide. Gonna continue to watch CL and the fields out here for something...thought I would put word out here since you guys are so good at finding these things!

Rammy's cousin has the VW colleoction and I saw this one, but it's is Stevensville. Unless someone can trailer the thing for me, I have no idea how to get it here. Maybe find something closer...

That red one Ryan and I checked out at his relatives property is super straight man. If I recall the interior in it was not original however. IIRC there was a disassembled motor in the orange bus.
That red bus would be pimp!!! I would love it just have too many projects, both baby and auto! lol

Saw that one too...looked like a mess inside, and it had a little front end damage. I would like to know more about both! Don't know how to get one here tho..!

If you buy some diesel it might give me a chance to pick up some stuff I could use from the other side of the state. You just have to pick a weekend that I don't have anything going on.
