WTB: 16v 2.0 9A or 1.8 head
I need it for the Passat project in my garage. Please email or PM if you have one you want to get rid of for a decent price. Thanks!

Hmmm sounds like a decent option...
I am working a deal to pick up a used head with 100K for $150 shipped. But what would it cost to have you rebuild it?

The only problem I have with 16v's is that they have 16 of everything.
1 used intake valve (cut) $6
1 lifter $8
1 installed guide (with part) $5
1 replaced seat $20
Heat straighten head $60
so when you add it up, it can be both ways.
If you end up jusgt needing intake valves then you get away at $40, plus the time to lap them. if your looking for a budget deal, then the used head might be a good parts bin.
Labor for rebuilding is about 150, for a good rebuild, it's the parts that kills people.
Same with my rebuilt trannies. It's only $200 in labor including replacing the diff rivots with a stud kit.

Ahh yeah see I want to go budget with this one as it's a third car and won't be a daily driver, and I have other projects I need/want to get started on and finish.
I paid a guy on the Vortex for an extra head he has and I should get it in the next couple of weeks.

easiest and best way to inspect( always inspect before you put it on) a 16v head is to take off the cams, remove all the lifters and re-install the cams (torqued) you should be able to turn the cam puller very easily, any excessive force means the camline is bent.....don't be afraid....it's easy to fix.

Nice, thanks for the tip - I will definitely test this head out using this method. You never know, but the kid seems trustworthy and I saw some pics (not that it helps me much!). Vortex is great for parts...
