I ruptured a disc in my back in January, Had surgery in Feb. Cant work b/c of medical restriction. Im looking to sell this to fill some of the void in my wallet.


1980 Rabbit Diesel C 2 Door White on Lipstick Red
67,893 miles. Not verified. But body shows it may be true.
The body has some scratches on the hood and small marks of surface rust on the side. (see pix)

Everything appears to be stock. Minus the engine swap but the 1.6D is Stock
I did remove the 1.5D and installed a running 1.6D mated to a 5 speed trans (code FN 20101)
I changed the oil and filter with a NAPA filter and Rotella 15w-40
Installed a new v-belt
New valve cover gasket
New NAPA air Filter
New fuel filter
Drained the old diesel fuel and replaced with #2 diesel with Howes Diesel additive.
It will have a new battery
New 5 speed linkages (dog bones) that comes with the bushing kit.

-Major Items to be addressed:
Finish up the 5 speed swap. I believe that it needs the reverse lock out box mounted under the shifter (exterior). It will go into every gear. You have to push down and over to get into 1st and 2nd.
Timing belt replacement. The installed looks good, but it’s a peace of mind thing.
I have not installed the transmission mount. I cannot do so because of my limitations on my back
Change gear oil
Tires will need replaced. It has 13” tires on it now. Tires currently hold air and have some tread on them.
The hood latch and cable will need replaced.
Driver side window regulator works, but needs replaced. The tube fell off and the end catches on the inside of the door.
Some new hose clamps are needed. The very small ones. Fuel return, Top of radiator.
-Included in the sale is the 1.5D and 4 speed trans. I don’t not need them and cant store them.
A lot of NOS odds and ends. IE; fuel hose from tank to hard line. A fuel injector, etc
Non-A/C bracket with pulleys.
The orginal A/C condenser and the compressor will be included.
I can include wheel dollys if the buyer wants them. So it can be rolled around the garage.

I am selling this because I cannot go back to work another month. I will list elsewhere but would like to see this go to a good home on here. First with cash takes it. No trades. I will not hold it unless a non refundable deposit is made. The car sits in my heated garage at the moment to keep rodents from invading the interior.
I have not driven this more than around the block to see how road worthy it is. I like to think it would make it to the MSP area, but give no guarantees.
$3500 FRIM. This cost includes everything listed and myself trailering it to Billings. I can trailer farther for additional cost. I will tarp the car to help against rocks/weather.

Meet in Glendive: $3350 FIRM. Bring a truck/trailer. ~250 miles from the MSP area.

$3000 FIRM if you come pick it up at my house. ~500 miles from MSP area. That includes all the extra parts too.
I will not lower the price if the extra engine/trans are not taken. I don’t need them and cant sell them up here.

I installed the upper transmission mount, modified the reverse lock out box so all forward gears and reverse work, I have been driving it everyday. Heat works great now, the cable that goes form the control unit to the heater core valve was inop. Clutch slips a slightly.
