So I've got some kind of problem with the battery draining on my Westy.
I've checked for draw by wiring a test light in series from the negative cable to the negative post with not even a faint glow. I've tested with my multimeter (not sure I did it right) and didn't get a reading at all. I'm aware that I need to clean and replace all of the grounds this weekend but is there any way bad grounds would cause a parasitic drain?
Cleaned the old and ran a few new grounds today.
Removed a multiple battery isolater that was faulty.
Removed a starter relay someone had installed above the engine and took the starter back to factory connections.
Tested factory ignition wire at the starter and it read just under the same reading as the battery.
Starter solenoid was clicking earlier today and even with a jump to the battery quit clicking at all this evening.
I just had the starter replaced last week and so I'm thinking this one may be fugged up as well.
In order to see if you have parasitic drain, put a multimeter in current mode and put it in series like you did with the test light. It'll be more accurate. Then what i used to do, if there was current flowing, was pull one fuse at a time and look back at the multimeter to see if anything changed. Eventually you'll pull a fuse that will diminish the current. Then you can isolate the correct circuit and start poking and prodding that one! good luck.
If you don't get a reading, then either there is no drain and your battery is shot (or maybe you have an alternator issue) or your multimeter can only read to so many digits. Its hard to find a multimeter that reads milliamps. But if it were just a small amount of current, it wouldn't drain your battery very fast.
I tried again this morning before sending it back to the shop to replace a dead starter and it read 0.002-3mV which doesn't appear to be a lot. I may have unknowingly fixed the draw when I removed a few wiring issues this weekend actually haha.
