When I sold the 1996 Golf, I took a 1985 in trade. It has issues but is certainly drive able on a daily basis. It needs to be cleaned up, but it has some interesting features. The door panels and seats were custom from a previous trip to Mexico. Most of it still looks ok. It has over 200K but the engine seems to run really strong. I have only driven it for about five days, but it has started up each morning even though it has been cold out.

The trans seems to leak a bit of oil when sitting so it looks like you have to add a bit ever two weeks or so. I imagine it depends on how it is driven and how long it sits. I called Brax and he has transmissions for $200, $400 and rebuilt for $700 but he also said it is quite common for the seals to go where the axles connect. If it is the seals, I guess they are about $12 bucks plus time. I don't care to play mechanic any more than necessary. I like to clean and polish my car, but I don't want to work on them much.

The front is a bit messed up after an encounter with a deer a year ago. It was partially repaired.

The guy I got it from drove it a 168 miles to get to Bozeman on 4 gallons of gas. Tires are fair and it will need an oil change. At this point, I am trying to avoid putting any cash into it. I am just driving it to see how well it does.

If you have any interest in buying it or trading it for something else that is aircooled or has a big screen or ????? Let me know. All reasonable inquires will be considered. :) I can send pics by email if you like.

These pictures are the ones sent to me before I took the car in trade. I have done little other than drive it since these were taken. This link should work.
