Re: Powder Coat
jsyk powder coating changes the integrity of the wheels, you should be alright with stockers though... don't know who in town does it though, just make sure they know what they are doing and wont over bake the wheels.FutureStage1 wrote:I was wondering where in montana can u get rims powder coated, I was admiring Unimoger's rims he had powder coated and I wanted to do the same. you could possibly anodize them instead... but you may be less likely to find a shop that can/will do that for you.

You might also try Jim Messick in Great Falls. He owns Advanced Coatings, and is a dubber (Mk4 GTI), and autocorsser. I am not sure what it would cost to have them shipped up there, but he seems to be pretty fair in pricing. I had mine done for0 $200 here in Missoula, and it was 2 colors black/red. That was done at Powdercoating of Montana, I am not sure of the number rightnow, but if you find it, talk to Ross, and tell him Aeron from Warrior Auto Works told you to call.

How about the difference between powercoating and good painting and a massive clear coat in the winters in MT?

I would think that sustained heat, such as long distance driving and hard braking and major heat cycling would be worse on the wheel then PC curing. True, they do cure it over 400, but there is no stress on the wheel in any way when they do it, so I would think that if it was somewhat softened and then cooled one time it would be okay. I am in no way a metalurgist, so I may just be talking out my ass, but I have some basic physics knowledge......Also from what I understand most aluminum wheels are actually an aluminum alloy, which makes it stronger, and able to withstand heat, as well as high stress, such as cornering and braking and accelleration.
