A/F gauge problem
I just put in a new O2 sensor and knock sensor. I hooked up my A/F and it flashes on and off. When I decelerate it reads like it does when the car isnt running. When I am on it it flashes on and off and never gives a reading. It is hooked up to the purple signal wire off of the O2 clip? What did Ido wrong?

I think how I wired the power to the gauge is my problem. I wired it so it comes on with my lights. I wasnt thinking when I did it. Im hoping thats the problem. Maybe it isnt getting the voltage it needs???? Ill try it. I think the O2 sensor is good because my exhaust doesnt smell like its running rich like it did. But that is the least of my worries now. The elbow on top of the radiator broke today. GOD DAMN CAR!!

A standard O2 sensor is accurate, but only in a very narrow range around stoich. To get accurate readings outside of stoich, where your AFR should be under WOT, you need wideband.Roadhog wrote:If you want an accurate reading you need a wideband. ones that run off your 02 sensor arent accurate for shit.

another thing to take into consideration is that o2 sensors only output between 0 and 1 volt, with about .5 volt being stoich. So if you have any resistance in the signal wire, you will have problems. If all your wiring came out of a a/f gauge kit, then you should be okay. If you had the gauge and then peiced together the kit, then it might be a wiring issue. Also, if the gauge worked fine on the last o2 sensor, then I think that narrows it down right there.!
