Additives/ Maintenence
Do you guys put any fuel or oil additives in your cars in the summer or winter to keep things ging? I never have just wondered if I should start, i'm getting ready to come out there with it and am just wondering If I need to do anything extra besides putting gas in and changing me oil.
Also I was wondering if you guys rtecommend me doing any extra maintenance before coming out there. It is going to be a little longer trip then the car has ever really been on (almost 2000 miles) I'm not sure what I should do to make sure it is ready tol roll. I'll change the oil, and bring some, and I think I'll take it to the local Euro guy here and have him drive it to make sure it seems Ok. Any other ideas.
It just seems to run sort of weird from time to time and I'm not sure what it is.

Just do the simple stuff like:
Tires have correct air pressure, including the spare.
Oil level is good.
Brake fluid is at a proper level.
Washer fluid is full.
Jack is functional and you know how to use it.

Yes to everything but I don't know if I have a jack, if I don't have one where is a good place to get one? I have a stupid donut spare but for my trip out west I think I'm going to get a bigger spare.
So you guys don't put any additives when it is colder. Like for extreme conditions. I never have but I was just curious.
I'm going to check my brake fluid, I have not checked it in awhile.

Never use an oil additives... Do a google search if you want to know why.

I tend to just search the Vortex for info... but you're not going to have that on a trip, so a bently would be good.
If you wanted to use some fuel injector cleaner you could, it shouldn't hurt anything (may not fix anything either).
As far as pre-trip checks, don't forget to look over the distributor cap/rotor, and spark plugs. Those can easily be worn past due and a long road trip could make them act up right when you get in the middle of a 100m section with no cell service. I think the lack of radio waves does it or something

First check your owners manual for the jack location. If you don't have one then you can snag the one out of your other jetta. And still if you need a jack you might try the vortex. Someone has to have and extra they'll let go for cheap. Another option is if you have room, pick up a small floor jack. You'll need it for working on the car anyway and they are only about a $20 investment.
