codes from cel need help

okay so a buddy and me scanned my 2000 vw jetta vr6 today and i got the following codes. P0420, P0411, P1196, and P1137 pd. I figured out that the P0420 was prolly my engine temp sensor being that my temp gauge rarely comes up. P0411 is either my secondary air injection pump or selenoid valve *which i have no idea what this is!*, and P1196 is my pre cat 02 sensor. the last one i have no idea and i searched for it but had no luck if someone could help me out that would be great thanks a lot!

Well, I am not sure what the rest of the codes are, but the secondary air pump is fairly common on the Vr6s, in fact I have the same problem. The pump pushed fresh air into some part of exhaust system on startup that helps the cat heat up faster so the 02 sensors do their job faster. Mine has been bad for about 3 years now, and the only problem it can lead to(other than the CEL being on) is premature cat failure, but I have not had any problems with it. One of these days I am going to fix it, but I haven't really felt like it for the last 3 years or so. Car runs perfectly, so I will get to is sometime.....

16804 - Catalyst System: Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold

Is a code for the pre-cat O2 sensor. More diags are needed to diagnose the real problem with the sensor, but for $25 he can replace it, which probably needs to be done anyway considering his mileage.

He also should get the green top coolant sensor and the o-ring too. I'm not that familiar with where it is on the VR, and I could look it up but I would imagine that one of you guys would know where it's at and maybe explain it better.

Couldn't find anything on the SAI pump, so I figure it's a misdiagnosed code. Some of the early 00 models don't even have one, and I didn't verify that. I you need more help Joel let me know and we can meet up another night.

for sure mike i have to wait until i get my tax return for those sensors but for graduation i get my exhaust from my dad i guess so im excited. now its just a matter of finding a cam and intake. lol hopefully summer is good the the getta! thanks for you help mike!
