Removing a MK3 trunk badge
On the jetta, I read to use a heat gun and dental floss. I tried that but, the floss seemed to break a lot. I found that if you use kite string it cuts off the old 3m like butter.
Then you can paint it up or replace it. Hope that tip saves you some time.

I painted the badge black and put it back on. Euro badge look at no cost.

I did this also, but I was really lazy about it. I waited untill someone rear-ended the Jetta, then I instructed the body shop to not put the emblems back on the new trunk. SImple and effective. Total time, 3 seconds.

The adhesive on mine had gotten so bad that I just pulled them off with my fingernails lol. Then used some 3m adhesive remover to get the leftover adhesive off.
