I have been putting in a lot of hours in the shop the last couple months to get ready for this week. I had shoulder surgery this week to fix some problems caused by stupidity of my youth so it will be a couple months until I am back to work. I am still on some potent pain killers, so I appologize if I don't make a lot of sense.
I purchased the engine from a 92 cabriolet in order to build my scirocco to fit the FSP SCCA class. I know there are lots of more powerful options out there, but I did not want to be thrown into XP with this car. I am building it to the allowed overbore. I have the machine shop tightening up some clearances, shaving the head, and working on balancing. I have sent the intake off to be extrude honed. I pulled the 190mm clutch setup out of my old 1.6 setup to keep things light. I have a 9A close ratio trans with Quaiffe diff installed. I also put in a .75 overdrive to help with rpm down the highway.
I am going to run it on DIGI II for the first year, but plan on eventually giving Megasquirt a try. I am going to try the TT chip for this setup along with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
I have the suspension dialed in pretty well. I am just adding some more chassis stiffening and a beefier front sway bar to try to reduce the rear tire lift. It is already polyeurethaned with Bilsetein sport struts and shocks. The springs are somthing from the past, but seem to have fairly aggressive rates.
I am stealing the Recaros from my GTI for this car. I do not plan to do much on the paint and body until the engine is sorted out. I am going to strip it for paint only when I feel it is nearly mechanically comlete.
Now it is the waiting game of waiting for the machine shop to get me my parts back and my shoulder to heal in time to install everything.
