16v cis-e engine bays are crazy to clean up. especially while keeping the a/c and power steering. plan is to get it running the first time around with cams, oem freshness, all the cool little goodies ive got. Then see what i dont need or want. Down the road when the engine comes out for the big valve head and so forth ill decide from there if i want to do a shave:)

Nah.... You have to fabricate custom a/c lines and a whole mess of other stuff. And if you look at a 16v CIS-e engine bay, with everything in it, you cant see the bay at all. To have it worth doing a shave I would have to do the following: a/c delete, power steering delete, find a scirroco 50mm intake manifold ( nearly impossible. haha), windshield washer fluid delete, battery re locate, rain tray delete and probably several things i missed. This is the only bay ive seen with power steering and a/c, but its CIS E Montronic not jetronic like im going to run, that looks awesome. If i went down this road the car wouldnt be done till ynp 2017

imho, that one still looks iffy too, the power potential of a 16v is so much better with a decent fuel setup. I agree with jason, and i really regret not doing it the way i wanted the first time, it was very shaved the first time, but not what i really wanted, and now im back to bare metal with about 50 hours of sore fingers left to do, and bangin my head on the core support the whole time :( with as crazy as the rest of the car is going to be i think it will drive you crazy too.

hot thread  When I stripped my bay I was fully happy with cleaning all the factory seam sealer out of there. Which is kinda like a shave. haha. all your really going to see is the strut towers with me keeping all of the nice-a-tees (a/c, power steer, windshield fluid, etc ). As for my motor setup, I guess I just want to keep this thing as "old school time period correct" as possible. Which is one of the reasons Im staying with the CIS. I love the old feel of the drive by cable, and when i get more proficient with it I dig the idea of being able to turn a wrench to tune the air fuel ratio, rather than a chip with montronic setups. and going stand a lone is just not what im trying to do with the build. If that limits my power that i get out of it, then thats cool. It just gives me a fat german boner to try to make as much power as possible with all the old school stuff (50mm intake, good ol cams, wrench tuning, stuff like that ). I think the only two non time period correct parts i will be putting on the car is a mk3 master cylinder, corrado rear seats, and an LSD ( dont know if they had those back then). Im definitly not trying to build a super fast car on this. just a clean zippy oem hot hatch with alot of the cool ol parts thats comfortable and fun to cruise and drive. Dont get me wrong, Ive been tossing around the idea of a shaved bay supercharged vr mk 2 for my next one. But this one Ive been set on the setup for awhile. As for everyones opinions, I love them keep them coming. thats what makes us individuals and our cars that way. Its nice to come to this forum, compared to others, and being to express your opinions without being chastized. Who knows, down the road i might take up the challenge of shaving and keeping all the nice-a-tees. For know Im going to rock it with the cleanest oem setup I can build, and see what really doesnt need to be there later on. Feeling kinda emotional today, Im going to change my tampon, and return to my hardcoreness. Rant over. Jd3 out. hahaha hugs, kisses, beers, and cheers

Shave the tampon, shave the tampon! :-)
I didn't know you were planning on OG under the hood, so I can see your reasoning!
