I gave the USB port thing another go. I found a softer plug that fit to the curve of the pillar cover better.
I think it looks better this way.
The USB port is just a fancy USB extension to the rear USB connection on the head unit. Will power my phone and also do phone functionality like pandora, itunes, and stuff like that. I wanted it on the A pillar so I didn't have goofy cable ends just poking through the dash or cables all over the place and also the screen in view so I didn't have to look down at it.

Update on the carpet.
It came pretty clean, certainly better than I could expect for a 24 year old car but I thought I'd give dying a shot.
5 Bottles of this.

Used as hot water as I could get and also boiling pots of water on my stove.

This is a before shot, see, not bad.

I had to roll it up pretty tight, kinda a pain to get it to fit. In hindsight I should have gotten it wet before rolling, much supler after wet.

Covered it with plastic and some towels to try and keep the heat in as long as I could


It's been in there for 24hrs now, I'm going to leave it till tomorrow evening. Every now and then I poke at it and try to stir up the water.
So far it's looking good but I'm pretty anxious.

cool I figured. That is what it was for. my stereo has one on the front but, I usually on plug in a micro thumb drive. the carpet should look good.

Had to disapear for a week

When I got back


I decided to make a shadow box. Mostly so I can keep my wires looking clean. Maybe I'll put a window in my beauty board one day with some ricer LEDs
Pieces cut. Dang I forgot what a mess MDF dust is



I used felt to cover it with. I would like to have used vinyl but I'm broke and I already had the felt. Meh, looks ok

Got some cool little hole plugs from ACE for the wire pass through.

Fastened the amp in place

Made up my wires for the sub and installed in the box. I used permatex ultra gray because that's what I had lying around to seal the hole. Per directions, voice coils wires in parallel. I used 12ga wire for the sub.. I didn't do the math but shooting from the hip seems like it'll be thick enough.


Then I started running the wires into the box, and trying to get everything situated.

The subwoofer has a remote volume I think that's the right term, whatever. Anyways, I couldn't come up with a clean place to install it without it looking like .. well an after thought clooge, So I popped it open to see if I could make it smaller and install it behind one of the unused dash block offs. Sure enough, it's just a POT with an RJ11 wired to the back. I drilled one of my blank off plates then trimmed down the existing hosing for the subwoofer level control and used JB weld to glue it to the back of the blank off plate.

Plugging along at this.
The speaker grill cloth for the front speakers behind the kick panels was deterioration so I had to replace it. Pretty straight forward, just pulled out the old, then cut a new piece and fastened with 3M spray adhesive.




Started reassembling the interior and noticed that my window up/down lock out switch was funky, not working very well. Like someone had spilled pop on it or something. Took it partially apart, washed in warm soapy water then lubed it up with some dielectric grease. Works better, not perfect, but I think the plunger rocker arm thing is getting worn. As it's not a high usage part I think I'll live with it.
